The Big Change

In three weeks I’ll be boarding a plane headed for Sweden. I’ve never lived outside of Iceland but if anything I’m surprised at how faint my sense of disbelief is. It’s there alright but there are other, stronger feelings. I have plenty of things to worry about, especially employment, but curiosity far outweighs worry. I’ve visited Falun three times already but I suspect that as a visitor I haven’t truly experienced the pace of life there.

It will probably be quite different from Reykjavík which often feels like a bonsai city. Of course different is relative in this case. If I’d move to, say, Kinshasa I’d experience profound differences unlike when moving from a small city in Iceland to a large town in Sweden. After all I’ll still be living in a Nordic country and there will be more similarities than differences.

Most of all I look forward to the move. I’ll be with Marie and get to know her three sons - which might be the biggest change for an only child with no offspring - and I’ll have an entire new world to discover in Dalarna province. This will be different from anything I’ve done before.

I both envy and feel sorry for you at the same time… its been 2 years for me and I never wanna go back.

Its good that you are prepared for changes because scandinavian countries are nothing like each other, but Im sure you will be pleasently surpriced. And I think your assessment of taking on a ready made family is correct…believe me raising a kid in danish is no picnic… hope it works better for you in swedish.. ha ha ha…

Anywho congrats and wish all the best it will be soooo worth it ;)

Wow! This is so much easier to read than hofteigur.net. I have read it three times now, in astonishment.
